London Ontario: The call is out seeking nominations for induction into the London Sports Hall of Fame. Deliberations by the Hall’s nominating committees are underway working toward the announcement of this year’s inductees set for early May. The official induction ceremony will take place in early November.
Nominees for induction remain on the ballot for a five year period. If during that time, they are not accepted for induction their names are dropped but may be re-nominated at a later date. Nominating forms are available at the Hall’s official website … www.londonsportshalffoffame.com.
The nominating committees consider potential Hall of Famers under two headings – Legends, those individuals or teams whose time in the sports spotlight occurred prior to1984, and Moderns, 1985 to the present.
In its 14th year of operation, 66 individuals and nine teams have already been inducted including such sports luminaries as Sandy Somerville, John Metras, Jack Fairs, Bob McFarlane, Fran Wigston Eberhard, Christine Nesbitt, and Pete James. Among those nominated since the last induction event are: Leo Loucks (martial arts), June Marie Provost (race walker), Jude St. John (football), and Jim Cressman (builder).
