Jim Allen, the Executive Director of the London Sports Council, died December 7 at his home in London.
Jim’s life was one dedicated to sports administration, coaching, and mentoring young people during his many years with school boards in the area. Even in retirement he coached basketball, including the Central Secondary School junior girls’ team this year. Jim was an assistant coach with the 1991 Western University men’s basketball team which was inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
His tenure as head of the Sports Council was considered a part-time job but, in Jim’s hand, was more full-time with special emphasis on the KidSport program, benefiting youngsters who otherwise may not have been able to afford to participate.
He was recently named a “senator” at the Highland Country Club, marking his membership of more than 30 years.
His contribution to the London Sports Hall of Fame committee will be sorely missed.
Rest in peace .. Jim.
