This year’s Hall of Fame inductees include: drag racing super-star, Frank Hawley; the late Frank Carson, the Detroit Red Wings original Number 9; builder, baseball, and slo-pitch legend Ken Benjamin; Western football star and twice Hec Crighton winner, Tim Tindale; the late Andy Gilpin, member of the 1948 Canadian Olympic gold medal winning hockey team; Adam Kreek, rowing star for Canada; Marcia (King) Goos, Olympic silver medallist in taekwando; and the 1951 and ’52 Lou Ball Juniors, Ontario baseball champs.
Spirit of Sport honourees include: Bruce Barran, Western wrestling, as Administrator of the Year; Volunteer of the Year, Ted Sinclair of London Blizzard sledge hockey fame; Frank Kliza of Thames S.S., Secondary School Coach of the Yea; and Peter Babcock, Glen Cairn P.S., Elementary Coach of the Year.
The evening’s proceedings start with a reception at 5:30 p.m., affording those in attendance the opportunity to meet and greet the inductees and grab a few autographs. At 6:30 p.m., the formal program begins featuring presentations to the Spirit of Sport honourees followed by video tributes to the Hall of Fame inductees, the unveiling of their plaques, and a chance to hear from the Hall’s newcomers who join the more than 60 previous inductees, some of whom will also be in attendance.
